"“I am really convinced that we should be extremely ambitious and determined to get closer to the set target of 350 ppm”(Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC)"

At a few days before the long awaited conference in Copenhagen, Rajendra Pachauri, Chairman of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has announced that he supports the objective of a concentration of 350 ppm ( parts per million) of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Until now, there is no significant progress on climate, but the deadline is fast approaching. The conference must give the conclusion of a global agreement on climate. “I am really convinced, when I look at what is happening and what will probably happen, that we should be extremely ambitious and determined to get closer to the set target of 350 ppm,” announces the Indian economist and Peace Nobel Prize winner in 2007.

The last IPCC report shows that in order not to exceed the 2°C limit in temperature, it will be necessary to maintain CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere below 450 ppm. For the moment, the global concentration is between 385 and 390 ppm. CO2 emissions are increasing ! The target of 350 ppm will eventually help in keeping global warming at the rate of 1.5°C.
